Vehicle personal injury claims – Do’s and Don’ts

Do’s

  • If hurt stay in vehicle until police/fire/ambulance arrive unless its dangerous to do so
  • Leave blinkers on or put warning devices on/out if you have them
  • If not hurt, carefully get out and take pictures at accident scene before cars are moved

 What pictures should you take:

  • Both vehicles where located at impact time
  • Damage to each vehicle

(All 4 sides)

  • Other driver and any passengers
  • Location of accident
  •  Any witnesses and any ID thereof
  • Get info from other driver – name, ID, address, license plate, full insurance company name and policy number
  • Get any occupants and witnesses names and contact information
  • Ask if other driver and all passengers are ok
  • Be respectful and cooperate with the police/fire/ambulance
  • Go see a doctor and lawyer immediately after the accident
  • Accident claims are for pro’s – not lay people

 

Don’ts

  • Don’t get mad – don’t yell and scream at other driver
  • Don’t  leave the scene of the accident
  • Don’t say the accident was your fault
  • Don’t say you are not hurt or you are fine
  • Don’t give a statement to an insurance company, its claims or property damage adjuster even if they tell you that if you don’t they won’t pay your claim
  • Don’t try to handle or adjust your/your families accident claim yourself
  • Don't leave scene of the accident
  • Would you want someone to build your house by a person who knows nothing about constructions or a person to handle your money who has not experience with banking or finance
